CH-53A/D Helicopter

In 1964, Sikorsky began delivering CH-53A helicopters to the U.S. Marine Corps to satisfy its heavy lift requirements. The multi-mission medium-lift helicopter was designed to transport personnel, supplies and equipment in support of amphibious and shore operations and is capable of emergency water loading and take off. The twin-turbine engined CH-53D model has a six-bladed main rotor which has an automatic blade folding system and is shipboard compatible and capable of operation in adverse weather conditions both day and night. The CH-53D aircraft continues to fill a role in the Marine Corps' medium lift helicopter fleet and is also flown by the United State Air Force , Israeli Force, and the German Air Force.
