Sikorsky Heads into 2005, HAI With Strong Tailwind

February 08, 2004

ANAHEIM, California - Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation enjoyed a strong sales year in 2004, racking up contracts for 52 S-92 helicopters and 29 S-76 helicopters from a variety of off-shore oil, foreign government, corporate, EMS, and VIP customers across the world.

The S-92 order book included 28 H-92 helicopters, the military version of the S-92, for Canada's Maritime Helicopter Program; one head-of-state S-92 for Turkey and two head-of-state S-92s for Turkmenistan; and one S-92 for the VVIP mission for Gulf Helicopters of Qatar. 2004 was also marked by the first S-92 deliveries.

"The S-92 had a great 2004 and we have every expectation that the market will remain strong for the aircraft in 2005. The S-92 has quickly found its place in the market because of its combination of size, efficiency, safety, and performance," said Jeff Pino, Sikorsky's Vice President for Sales and Commercial Programs.

S-76 sales were bolstered by a resurgence in the off-shore oil market, which accounted for more than two-thirds of the 2004 contracts.

Sikorsky also announced this week at Heli-Expo 2005 a series of immediate upgrades available for the new S-76C++ helicopter and an additional set of product improvements that will lead to the introduction of the S-76D model helicopter in 2008.

"The S-76 continues its extraordinary run as one of the industry's star performers," Pino said. "It has the best combination of speed, range, cabin comfort and space, and capability in its class - all of which will improve with the introduction of the S-76C++ and S-76D models."

A civil aircraft in the five-metric tons weight class, the S-76C++ helicopter features twin turbine engines, a glass cockpit, and a dual digital autopilot. Superb flight controls, high speed and long range also make the S-76 helicopter the best offshore search and rescue helicopter in its class. Maximum speed is 178 miles per hour, and range is up to 500 miles. Sikorsky has delivered more than 550 S-76 aircraft.

The S-76C+ is a venerable fixture in offshore oil, corporate, SAR and EMS activities across the globe. Recent milestones for the S-76 helicopter include the S-76C+ helicopter receiving The Robb Report's 2003 award for "Best Luxury Helicopter," and an S-76A helicopter currently in airline service surpassing the 25,000-hour mark.

The S-92 provides unprecedented levels of safety and reliability, including Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning Systems (EGPWS) in all civil aircraft configurations.

It is the first helicopter in the world certified by the FAA to FAR Part 29 Transport Rotorcraft, Amendment 47, the latest U.S. safety regulations. The Joint Aviation Requirements (JAR) are the European counterpart of the USA-based FAR, with similar safety regulations. The type certification and safety capabilities place the S-92 firmly ahead of other medium helicopters in the marketplace.

The S-92 is also the first helicopter in the world certified by the European Aviation Safety Agency/ Joint Aviation Authorities (EASA/JAA) to the latest and most rigorous safety standards.

Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation, based in Stratford, CT, is a world leader in helicopter design, manufacturing and service. Sikorsky is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corporation (NYSE: UTX), of Hartford, CT, which provides a broad range of high technology products and support services to the aerospace and building systems industries.
