Camp Sikorsky Brings Scouts to Stratford

September 30, 2005

STRATFORD, Connecticut - 350 Boy Scouts & Girl Scouts Pitching Camp at Sikorsky Aircraft This weekend, (September 30 - October 2), more than 350 Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts from across the United States are participating in the fourth-annual "Camp Sikorsky," sponsored by Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation.

The Scouts began arriving Friday afternoon to pitch camp on the great lawn in front of Sikorsky's 2.1 million square-foot campus, located at 6900 Main Street in Stratford. In addition to camping, the weekend program affords Scouts an opportunity to earn merit badges in subjects such as aviation, chemistry, communications, engineering, drafting, fire safety, graphic arts and space exploration. Sikorsky employees serve as merit badge counselors, many of whom frequently volunteer with Scouting and other community activities throughout the year.

"Sikorsky has always believed in, and been involved with our community," said David Adler, Eagle Scout and current Senior Vice President of Sikorsky's Worldwide Customer Service. "The connection between Sikorsky and the Scouts is a strong one. It's a great way to mentor and encourage the young people firsthand."

Scouting has played a role for many Americans, who later went on to have notable careers in public service, science and industry, education and the arts, and philanthropy.

Sikorsky helicopters occupy a prominent position in the intermediate to heavy range of 5,300 kg. to 33,000 kg. gross weight. They are flown by all five branches of the United States armed forces, along with military services and commercial operators in more than 40 nations.

Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation, based in Stratford, CT, is a world leader in helicopter design, manufacturing and service. Sikorsky is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corporation, of Hartford, CT, which provides a broad range of high technology products and support services to the aerospace and building systems industries.
