The Field Operation Center will perform modifications and crash damage repairs, component repairs, and depot field teams in support of fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft.
"This move is being made to centralize and expand our depot operations, which will provide our customers on the east and west coasts better access to the services that SSSI has to offer," said David Adler, Sikorsky Senior Vice President, World Wide Customer Service.
The Beeville Development Authority will fund facility refurbishments at Chase Field as part of its effort to bring aviation and jobs back to the town, Adler said. SSSI estimates that more than 60 people will be employed at the Chase Field location by the end of April 2007.
SSSI will leverage its continuous improvement philosophies, techniques, and supporting technology solutions to eliminate waste, simplify processes, and continuously improve aspects of the aircraft and component repair initiatives, Adler said. SSSI's Lean program will focus on delivering significant improvements in performance and customer satisfaction.
Chase Field will enable SSSI to increase its hangar space from 24,000 square feet currently in Jacksonville to more than 200,000 square feet. "SSSI is very excited about this move," said SSSI General Manager George Springsteen. "We anticipate growing the business significantly by 2011, and this larger facility gives us the room to grow in order to succeed. This is a fine opportunity to show the versatility and efficiency of our company, and we look forward to supporting customer requirements by demonstrating our unique capabilities."
Chase Field has been designated a Defense Economic Readjustment Zone and a Texas Enterprise Zone. Establishment of the Beeville operation at Chase Field is expected to significantly assist the community and surrounding counties in their quest for economic recovery through job creation, technology infusion, and capital investment.
