Second Norsk S-92 Enters Revenue Service in the North Sea

April 06, 2005

BERGEN, Norway - Norsk Helikopter's second S-92 has entered service this month, operating from Bergen, Norway. Prior to operation, the aircraft underwent final modifications at Norsk's maintenance facility in Stavanger, Norway.

The aircraft is operated by Norsk Helikopter and is being used by Statoil for crew change missions throughout the North Sea area. Norsk is the first European off-shore oil S-92 customer.

The delivery of Norsk's first S-92 helicopter took place at the Sikorsky facilities in Stratford, Conn. in February and was celebrated the following week in a ceremony at the Heli-Expo 2005 trade show. Both of Norsk's new S-92 helicopters will replace two AS332 Super Pumas.

Sikorsky anticipates more S-92 helicopters will begin offshore operations in the North Sea this year. The S-92 helicopter is the first in the world certified by the European Aviation Safety Agency/ Joint Aviation Authorities (EASA/JAA) to the latest and most rigorous safety standards. The S-92 was also the first helicopter certified by the FAA to FAR Part 29 Transport Rotorcraft, Amendment 47, the latest U.S. safety regulations, which mirror the European standards.

Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation, based in Stratford, CT, is a world leader in helicopter design, manufacturing and service. Sikorsky is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corporation (NYSE: UTX), of Hartford, CT, which provides a broad range of high technology products and support services to the aerospace and building systems industries.
