Norsk Takes Delivery of First North Sea S-92

  ANAHEIM, California - Sikorsky Aircraft and Norsk Helikopter celebrated the recent delivery of the first S-92 helicopter scheduled for offshore service in the North Sea. The S-92 was delivered to Norsk last week at the Sikorsky facility in Stratford, Conn.

This new S-92 helicopter is currently undergoing final preparations for offshore revenue flights from Bergen, Norway. The aircraft is expected to enter service by the end of the February under a contract Norsk has secured with Statoil.

Additionally, a second S-92 is scheduled to join the Norsk and service Statoil this spring. The new S-92s will replace two AS332 Super Pumas.

Jeff Pino, Sikorsky's Senior Vice President for Sales and Commercial Programs, presided over the deliver ceremony at the Heli-Expo 2005 trade show, presenting a commemorative plaque and S-92 model to Ivar Eie, Norsk's Managing Director. Other attendees included Erik Hamremoen, Sr. Aviation Advisor for Statoil; Knut Axel Ugland, owner of Ugland Holding AS, one of Norsk's parent companies, and Bill Chiles, President of Offshore Logistics, the other Norsk parent company.

Sikorsky anticipates more S-92s will begin offshore operations in the North Sea this year. The S-92 is the first helicopter in the world certified by the European Aviation Safety Agency/ Joint Aviation Authorities (EASA/JAA) to the latest and most rigorous safety standards. The S-92 was also the first helicopter certified by the FAA to FAR Part 29 Transport Rotorcraft, Amendment 47, the latest U.S. safety regulations.
